I'm a native Virginian, but raised in North Carolina. My education took me to Austin, Texas, but after almost 20 years there, that place got too crazy, and I wanted a slower pace for myself and my family and to return to my home state, so we picked up and moved to Salem, Virginia. I've been involved in building and repairing musical instruments for over 20 years, since I built my first guitar with the help of my father at the age of 18. That was just a bolt together "partscaster" guitar from premade components. Time and an insatiable appetite for learning pulled my interests as a player away from guitar to the double bass, and along with it my interests in repairing and building to violin family instruments. I now specialize fully in building and repairing violins and related instruments. I work out of a small workshop in the basement of my home, and so I don't publish my address and ask that you contact me via email to set up an appointment when you need repair work.
I am a member of the Guild of American Luthiers and the Blue Ridge Luthiers. I am trained in violin repair through the Violin Craftsmanship Institute at the University of New Hampshire. When I am not in my workshop you can sometimes find me playing bass at some of the bluegrass jam sessions around the Roanoke Valley, riding a bicycle on the greenways, or just hanging out around town with my family.
